| Andalusite, 1.26ct., 7.13x7.14x4.34mm. Modified Round Brilliant (Uns-And333) $202 |
| Andalusite is an exotic gem first found in the Andalusia region of Spain, but now mostly from deposits in Brazil. It's an unusual stone because it is strongly pleochroic (displays distinct colors depending on viewing angle). The colors are usually a rich brownish orange and a strong yellowish green. I've always liked andalusite, but it's hard to find in clean pieces that allow for attractive orientation of the stone's colors. I turned down a lot of second-tier andalusite before finding this stone -- if you like unusual pieces, don't pass this up. It's not something I can easily replicate. |
